Vision

Mission

"To contribute to the overall socio-economic development of Barbados and the empowerment of all members of society by fully utilising all available human financial and technological resources; formulating evidence-based policy and implementing timely, effective and equitably accessible social programmes and services."

  
Functions of Ministry

The Principal objective of the Ministry is to alleviate/eradicate proverty. This is achieved through the:

  • provision of effective saftey nets;
  • empowerment of individuals, families and communities;
  • facilitation of equality, equity, and social inclusion for all persons in society;
  • renewal of the urban corridor;
  • stimulation of development at the community level using the constituency as a geographical framework;
  • improvement of human-life quality in rural Barbados;
  • enhancement if social policy formulation and decision-making;
  • continuous assessment fo the delivery of social services; and
  • the offering of a seamless delivery of personal social services.

The Ministry's mandate is realised through the following agencies for which it has responsibility:

  1. The National Assistance Board;
  2. The National Disabilities Unit;
  3. The Poverty Alleviation Bureau;
  4. The Bureau of Social Policy, Research and Planning;
  5. The Department of Constituency Empowerment;
  6. The Urban Development Commission;
  7. The Rural Development Commission, and
  8. The Welfare Department.
